DESCRIPTION:This event is for high school students only! \nTest your students’ global IQ at our annual international knowledge competition for high school students – Academic WorldQuest. This FREE event challenges high school students in a fun and interactive manner to think globally about critical issues facing the U.S. and the world. And this year’s competition will be VIRTUAL! \nThe winning team will represent Minnesota at the national Academic WorldQuest competition presented virtually by the World Affairs Councils of America\, on April 17\, 2021. \nCompetition Details\n\nFREE to compete\nThis year’s competition will be VIRTUAL! SUMMARY:Global Conversations DIGITAL: Women Powering Africa's Recovery\, with Efe Ukala
DESCRIPTION:Access to business financing remains a major constraint for women\, particularly in developing countries. Bridging that financing gap and empowering women entrepreneurs is one key to women realizing their full economic potential. \nThis March we celebrate International Women’s Day with a special presentation honoring women business owners. \nEfe Ukala is the founder of ImpactHER\, an international nonprofit helping African female entrepreneurs achieve their dreams of globally competitive businesses. She will present the results of ImpactHER’s 2020 survey of the effects of Covid-19 on female business owners throughout Africa. In addition\, she will describe specific steps taken by some entrepreneurs who transformed their businesses into stronger\, more resilient enterprises. \nThis event will be livestreamed\, with links provided to registrants. \n  \nAbout the Speaker\nEfe Ukala is an experienced private equity lawyer. She has extensive exerience in public investments arising out of frontier markets. Ms. Ukala received her A.B. from the University of Chicago and her J.D. from Washington and Lee University School of Law. DESCRIPTION:Explore the globe with the 2021 season of Landmark Center’s popular Urban Expedition – offered virtually! This event begins online on March 7 and is available through March 21. \nDesigned for everyone to enjoy\, Urban Expedition offers the opportunity to learn more about the world. With a focus on a different destination\, each program in the series provides cultural experiences that include music\, dance\, crafts\, and traditions. \nJoin Landmark Center to virtually travel to Spain in early March. Our new Lunch & Learn series starts with a virtual visit from three Humphrey Fellows. \nThe second event\, scheduled for April 14\, will feature four additional speakers. \nLearn about their professional work\, countries\, and cultures! We will have time for a Q&A at the end of the session. \nThe Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program brings accomplished mid-career professionals from developing designated nations and emerging democracies to the United States for a year of academic study\, related professional experience\, and cultural exchange. Fellows learn about the U.S. cultural\, political\, and economic systems and further develop a sense of the global context in which they and their countries operate. \nThis event is available to members of Global Minnesota who pre-registered. The program begins at 12:00 noon here:  ZOOM link. \nAbout the Speakers\n\nDanish Ali Bhutto of Pakistan\, Law and Human Rights: Mr. Bhutto has worked at the Parliament of Pakistan for more than 7 years on parliamentary research\, speech writing\, program management and human rights. During his Fellowship period\, he plans to improve his advocacy\, research\, and human rights knowledge and skills to achieve better policy results for women and youth issues in Pakistan.\nAmedeea-Viorica Enache of Romania\, Economic Development: Ms. Enache serves as the Executive Director of Estuar Foundation\, an NGO that provides social and advocacy services to adults with mental health disabilities. During her Fellowship period\, she hopes to learn innovative approaches to deliver social services to persons with mental health disabilities in Romania.\nJeza Mae Sarah Sanchez of Philippines\, Public Policy Analysis and Public Administration: Ms. Sanchez heads the Regional Legal Service and the Program Development Divisions of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Northern Mindanao.
