DESCRIPTION:Join us for an exclusive event for Global Minnesota members! Our new Lunch & Learn series continues with a virtual visit from four Humphrey Fellows. \nThis second event will feature four additional speakers. \nLearn about their professional work\, countries\, and cultures! We will have time for a Q&A at the end of the session. \nThe Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program brings accomplished mid-career professionals from developing designated nations to the United States for a year of academic study\, related professional experience\, and cultural exchange. Fellows learn about the U.S. cultural\, political\, and economic systems and further develop a sense of the global context in which they and their countries operate. \nMembers who registered may access this event via this ZOOM link. \n\nAbout the Speakers\n\nDounia Benslimane of Morocco\, Law and Human Rights: Ms. Benslimane has committed her career to development and democracy-building. SUMMARY:Global Conversations DIGITAL: Trade is Not a Four-Letter Word
DESCRIPTION:Trade allows us to sell what we produce at home and purchase what we don’t. It lowers prices and gives us greater variety and innovation. Understanding our place in the global trade network is rarely simple: Trade has become a question mark for struggling economies\, sometimes a scapegoat for failing businesses\, and for many who struggle to understand it\, nothing short of a four-letter word. \nAs former Chairman of the Export-Import Bank of the United States\, Fred Hochberg maintains trade is easier to comprehend than we commonly think. Drawing from experience and his book Trade is Not a Four-Letter Word\, Hochberg is primed to discuss trade in the particular context of bipartisan trade agreements\, such as the 2020 U.S. Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). Negotiated by the Trump Administration and passed with bipartisan support in Congress\, the success and value of the agreement for American workers has been touted publicly on both sides of the legislative aisle. \nThis event will include a short presentation followed by a conversation moderated by Jessica Libby\, Managing Director\, Trade & Customs for KMPG US. Ms. Libby is also a member of the Board of Directors for Global Minnesota. \nThis event is accessible for registered participants via the Global Minnesota YouTube channel.\n  \nTrade is Not a Four-Letter Word: How Six Everyday Products Make the Case for Trade  is available for purchase from Magers & Quinn Booksellers.  \nAbout the Speaker\nFred P. Hochberg served as the Chairman and President of the Export-Import Bank of the United States from 2009 to 2017\, the longest-serving Chairman in the agency’s history. He also served for five years as Dean at the Milano School of International Affairs\, Management\, and Urban Policy at the New School in New York City\, and has been a fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government’s Institute of Politics and David Axelrod’s Institute of Politics at the University of Chicago. He also served as acting administrator of the Small Business Administration and spent almost two decades leading his family’s direct-marketing business\, Lillian Vernon. \nPresented in partnership with the KPMG\, Friends of the Minneapolis Central Library\, Hennepin County Library – Minneapolis Central\, Landmark Center\, Edina Senior Center\, Friends of the Edina Library\, Minneapolis Public Schools Community Education\, Plymouth Library\, and Washburn Library. \n  \nIf you are registering for this event from outside the United States\, please go here.
