McCampbell\, Associate Professor of International Business and Law at Metropolitan State University. McCampbell\, associate professor of international business and law at Metropolitan State University \n  \nSpeakers\nNicholas Burns \nNicholas Burns is U.S. Ambassador to China. Nominated by President Biden and confirmed by the Senate\, he was sworn into office on December 22\, 2021. \nAs Ambassador\, he leads a team of experienced\, dedicated\, and diverse public servants from 47 U.S. government agencies and sub-agencies at the U.S. Mission in China\, including at the Embassy in Beijing and at the American Consulates in Shanghai\, Guangzhou\, Wuhan\, and Shenyang. He oversees the Mission’s interaction with the PRC on the full range of political\, security\, economic\, commercial\, consular\, and many other issues that shape this critical relationship. \nAmbassador Burns has had a distinguished career in American diplomacy\, serving six U.S. Presidents and nine Secretaries of State over 27 years. His State Department roles have included Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs\, the State Department’s third-ranking official and most senior career diplomat (2005-2008); U.S. Ambassador to NATO (2001-2005); U.S. Ambassador to Greece (1997-2001); and State Department spokesman (1995-1997). Before that\, he worked at the National Security Council at the White House (1990-1995) where he served as Special Assistant to President Clinton and Senior Director for Russia\, Ukraine and Eurasia Affairs and as Director for Soviet Affairs for President George H.W. Bush during the collapse of the USSR. \nDuncan J. McCampbell \nDuncan J. McCampbell is an American lawyer and associate professor of international business and law at Metropolitan State University in Minneapolis. Following a career in private law practice\, Prof. McCampbell joined West Publishing (now Thomson Reuters Legal)\, the world’s largest legal publisher. His work—much of it overseas—involved building new legal publishing businesses in the UK\, Germany\, Spain\, Switzerland\, the Netherlands\, Canada\, Hong Kong\, and Australia. In his last overseas assignment\, he was posted to Beijing in 2007 as managing director of TR’s China start-up\, Westlaw China. \nLeaving business for academia\, Prof. McCampbell became a tenured associate professor in the College of Management at Metropolitan State\, where he teaches undergraduate\, graduate\, and doctoral courses in law\, international business\, and marketing\, while serving as department chair. He teaches regularly in China\, holding visiting scholar appointments at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing\, South China University of Technology in Guangzhou\, and at Huaihua University and Hunan Institute of Science and Technology in Hunan Province\, PRC. \nPresented in partnership with The China Center. \nRegister Here

Huntsman\, Jr. \nJon M. Huntsman\, Jr. served as the U.S. ambassador to Russia from 2017–19\, to China from 2009–11\, and to Singapore from 1992–93. \nHuntsman has served in every presidential administration since the presidency of Ronald Reagan\, not counting the Biden administration. He began his career as a White House staff assistant for Ronald Reagan\, and was appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce and U.S. Ambassador to Singapore by George H. W. Bush. Later as Deputy U.S. Trade Representative under George W. Bush\, he launched global trade negotiations in Doha in 2001 and guided the accession of China into the World Trade Organization. Huntsman is the only American ambassador to have served in both Russia and China\, having served as the U.S. Ambassador to China under Barack Obama from 2009 to 2011 and as the U.S. Ambassador to Russia under Donald Trump from 2017 to 2019. \nMary Curtin \nMary Curtin\, Ph.D.\, a Minnesota native\, joined the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota as diplomat-in-residence in 2013 after a 25-year career as a Department of State Foreign Service Officer. As diplomat-in-residence\, she teaches courses in foreign policy and diplomacy and serves as chair of the Humphrey School’s global policy area. \nDuring her Foreign Service career\, she served at the US Mission to the EU in Brussels; as political counselor in Warsaw\, Poland; and at missions in Tunisia\, Mali\, and Chile\, as well as in Washington\, DC. She has expertise in issues including Middle East policy; European affairs\, including the EU and NATO; human rights and democratization\, and non-proliferation. She was a member of the U.S. delegation to the 1995 UN Conference on Women. \nShe earned a Ph.D. in history from Columbia University in the City of New York (1986)\, writing her dissertation on “Hubert H.
