SUMMARY:Global Social with International Journalists and Humphrey Fellows
DESCRIPTION:This event is being held in-person and is open to Global Minnesota members and their guests. \nLater this month\, we’re proud to welcome international journalists from the Edward R. Murrow Program and fellows from the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program with a special reception hosted by Global Minnesota and Augsburg University. \nThese international journalists come from Armenia\, Bangladesh\, Bolivia\, Croatia\, Ethiopia\, Iraq\, Laos\, Lebanon\, Liberia\, Malaysia\, Mauritius\, Nicaragua\, Nigeria\, Singapore\, South Africa\, and Sri Lanka. While in Minnesota\, they will examine press freedom in the United States\, the role of journalism in a democracy\, and how new technologies shape the way news is gathered\, reported\, distributed and consumed. \nLikewise\, the Humphrey Fellows represent countries from around the world\, including Argentina\, Burkina Faso\, Cambodia\, Colombia\, Indonesia\, Lesotho\, Mozambique\, The Philippines\, Romania\, Turkey\, and Uzbekistan. In Minnesota for a year\, these fellows will learn about U.S. cultural\, political\, and economic systems and further develop a sense of the global context in which they and their countries operate. \nBe a part of this exclusive event for Global Minnesota members and their guests to meet these international fellows and learn about their cultures\, countries\, and professional work. DESCRIPTION:This event is SOLD OUT. \nThis year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of former South African president\, Nelson Mandela. In celebration of Mandela’s enduring contribution to the advancement of civil rights and the numerous ties between Minnesota and South Africa\, join us for a launch event of our Year of South Africa. \nThe evening will feature special guest Consul General Phumzile Mazibuko from the South African Consulate General in Chicago\, members of several prominent Minnesota organizations that are engaging in travel to South Africa to strengthen Minnesota ties in the region\, the lively sounds of African band Shalita\, and complimentary South African hors d’oeuvres and wine. \nPresented in partnership with the Center for Global Education and Experience at Augsburg University and the Honorary Consulate of South Africa.
