Join Global Minnesota for a tour of the Minneapolis Institute of Art! \nInternational students and friends are invited to join Global Minnesota for a one-hour\, customized guided tour of the Minneapolis Institute of Art. The tour will highlight unique international and local items from MIA’s incredible art collection. With more than 89\,000 pieces\, MIA’s collection represents every continent and over 5\,000 years of history. The tour will be led by two knowledgeable MIA guides\, including Global Minnesota member and retired career diplomat\, Margo Squire! \nWeather permitting\, after the tour the group will have the option to walk to “Eat Street” (10-15 minute walk). Eat Street is an area known for its diverse selection of restaurants. Continue your exploration of local and international cultures with delicious food options including Mediterranean\, Vietnamese\, Mexican\, and everything in between. The event is free\, but registration is required. SUMMARY:The Art of Korea: Mia Gallery Tour
DESCRIPTION:Members-only event\nNot a Member of Global Minnesota? Join Today! \nAmong the top five collections in the U.S.\, the Korean art exhibit at the Minneapolis Institute of Art features thousands of pieces ranging from ancient to contemporary. The art is showcased both chronologically and by medium\, highlighting the history of not only the objects themselves but also of a collected process of artistic creation. \nUnique and new to the exhibit are pieces from St. Paul-native Mary Griggs Burke\, who bequeathed her vast collection to Mia and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in 2015. Mia highlights the breadth of this gift by featuring a variety of stunning pieces\, including a luminous celadon Korean maebyong vessel from the 1100s inlaid with a pattern of a crane amid clouds. \nJoin us for a private\, docent-led tour of the exhibit and experience the beauty behind Korean art. Dr. Aaron Rio\, Andrew W. Mellon Assistant Curator of Japanese and Korean Art at Mia will give a special introduction. \nThis private tour will include: \n\nA continental breakfast\nIntroduction by Dr. Aaron Rio\, Assistant Curator\nDocent-led tour of the Korean Galleries in the Mary Griggs Burke Collection\n\nSpace is Limited.
