SUMMARY:SDG Roundtable: In Search of Water Circularity
DESCRIPTION:This free event is being held in-person and virtually and is open to everyone. In-person registration is now closed! Virtual registration is still available. \nAccessible freshwater on Earth is finite\, but demand is constantly rising due to population growth and industrial use. Water circularity\, the process of reusing and recycling all of the water used in a closed system\, is gaining popularity even in places of water abundance such as the Netherlands. How can circularity help ensure that water demand does not exceed supply? What can we learn from other countries? \nJoin Global Minnesota in advance of World Water Day 2025\, for our next Sustainable Development Goals Roundtable. We’ll partner with Freshwater Society\, a leading Minnesota advocate for water conservation. Sunrise Banks will co-host the event. As a certified B Corp\, Sunrise Banks drives social and environmental impact through ethical banking solutions. \nMinnesota-based Kurita America\, part of the Kurita Group headquartered in Japan\, will deliver the keynote presentation. You’ll also hear from other globally-minded water experts\, including Oriana Raabe\, Senior Director of Sustainability at Pentair and President of the Pentair Foundation\, during a panel addressing some of today’s pressing water conservation questions. \nIf you require an accommodation\, please contact our Corporate Relations Officer Steve Jaffee at sjaffee@globalminnesota.org. \nCorporate Member Resources: Open the link to see how Global Minnesota corporate members offer expertise\, services\, or technology that can help with your organization’s sustainability goals. \nThanks to Global Minnesota Corporate Member GF (formerly Uponor) for sponsoring this event! \nRegister

SUMMARY:SDG Roundtable: Tools to Envision a Restorative Future
DESCRIPTION:This free event is being held in-person and virtually and is open to everyone. \nWe all plan ahead. Companies and organizations set sustainability goals with a combination of short-term and long-term targets. But what about very long-term goals? The United Nations SDG goals reach out to the year 2050 and beyond. What does the road look like– and what tools are available– for such long-range thinking and planning? And how do we set a course that is not only sustainable but restorative? \nJoin us January 11 when nationally recognized futurist Trista Harris will keynote the next Sustainable Development Goals Roundtable offering some answers to these questions. Trista is the president of FutureGood\, a consultancy that helps visionary leaders build a better future. She speaks internationally about using the tools of futurism in the social sector. \nThe event will also feature additional experts on sustainable–and restorative–development. You’ll hear cases and examples from around the world on how it’s possible to envision solutions 30 or more years into the future. \nYou’ll come away with a better understanding of why now is a good time to look at the future–and how to envision the impact of your own work 30 or more years from now. \nGlobal Minnesota is pleased to partner with corporate member Sunrise Banks in hosting this event. Laura Wildenborg\, Fintech Innovation Manager for Sunrise Banks\, will share the role banks can play in facilitating organizations to achieve their future sustainability goals. \nAs a socially responsible bank\, Sunrise’s mission is to empower financial wellness through innovation. The bank focuses on positive community engagement with ethical banking and partners with like-minded companies to extend its mission nationally and around the world. Sunrise is a certified B Corporation\, a certified Community Development Financial Institution and member of the Global Alliance for Banking on Values. \nEvent Speakers: \n\nKeynote: Trista Harris\, President\, FutureGood\nPanelist:  Tim Roman\, CEO\, Ecotone Analytics\nPanelist: Ken Smith\, CEO\, EverGreen Energy\nPanelist: Laura Wildenborg\, Fintech Innovation Manager\, Sunrise Banks\nModerator: Bjorgvin Saevarsson\, Founder\, Yorth Group\n\nIf you require any accommodations\, please contact our Corporate Relations Officer Steve Riedel at sriedel@globalminnesota.org. \nCorporate Member Resources: Open the link to see how Global Minnesota corporate members offer expertise\, services\, or technology that can help with your organization’s sustainability goals. \nThanks to promotional supporter the United Nations Association of Minnesota.  \nIf you are registering for this event from outside the United States\, please go here.

SUMMARY:Farewell Open House for Mark Ritchie
DESCRIPTION:This event is being held in-person and is open to everyone. \nHelp us thank Global Minnesota President Mark Ritchie for his service in building Minnesota’s global engagement at a farewell Open House from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on October 3. Stop by over the course of the afternoon for cake\, coffee\, and conversation with Mark as he plans for his upcoming retirement on October 10. \nThroughout his career\, Mark has championed Minnesota as one of the world’s most globally minded places\, working tirelessly to ensure a warm welcome for people from every corner of the planet. We are especially appreciative of Mark’s leadership through the challenges of the pandemic\, transforming program delivery with new digital tools that expanded the organization’s work of connecting Minnesotans to the world\, and the world to Minnesota. \nBring your good wishes and favorite Mark stories to share at the Open House. \nIf you’d like to make a gift in honor of Mark\, any contributions received online or at the event will be dedicated to providing stipends for International Fellows at Global Minnesota in 2023. \nSpecial thanks to Sunrise Banks for providing the Open House event venue.

SUMMARY:Saving the Majestic Rhino: Conservation Challenges and Successes Across South Africa
DESCRIPTION:For members and their guests only.  \nHome to more than 20\,000 rhinoceroses\, South Africa has one of the largest rhino populations in the world. However\, threats from poaching\, habitat loss\, and political conflict continuously endanger the rhino species\, pushing them toward extinction. \nAs we continue our yearlong focus on South Africa\, join us for a special discussion with Nicole Benjamin-Fink\, wildlife biologist and founder of Conservation Beyond Borders\, on the work being done across political and geographic boundaries to engage communities in the socioeconomic implications of policies that endanger the rhino. \nAbout the Speaker\nNicole Benjamin-Fink is a wildlife biologist and the Director and Founder of Conservation Beyond Borders\, an organization that resolves human-wildlife conflict across Africa and Asia. Nicole provides science-based strategies to international\, national\, and regional decision makers\, and applies economic theory to save endangered species in their habitat. Her research highlights the importance of local capacity building\, as well as integrating indigenous people into the conservation process. Nicole applies game theory and Bayesian statistics to address rhino poaching concerns across Africa and India\, and has conducted research in South America\, Southern Africa\, West Africa\, and India. Nicole founded Conservation Beyond Borders as a platform to provide conceptual and applicable solutions to transboundary conservation challenges. \nThis event is for Global Minnesota members only. Not a member? Become one today!
