On December 6, Lloyd Ultan Hall at the University of Minnesota’s School of Music will host a special guitar recital by Alvaro Henrique, a first-year Brazilian DMA student, UMN Teaching Assistant, and Global Minnesota Classroom Connection volunteer.
This recital features works by composers born in Brasília, the capital city and federal district of Brazil, presenting a diverse range of compositions that reflect the city’s unique musical culture. The program aims to promote a local musical identity, with Alvaro having personally commissioned several pieces to highlight the creativity and talent of his hometown.
This recital is more than a performance—it’s a project to foster and showcase the unique contributions of Brasília’s composers to the classical guitar repertoire. Alvaro’s dedication to commissioning and performing these works underscores his belief in the value of local culture and its potential to make a lasting impact on the global stage.
