Global Conversations: The Future of Kurdistan

April 13, 2016 @ 5:30 pm CDT

/ Free

Kurdistan, a region made up of parts of Turkey, Iraq, Iran, and Syria, is home to one of the largest ethnic groups in West Asia: the Kurds. Now, most in the West know them for the small, oil-rich autonomous region in northern Iraq called Iraqi Kurdistan — one of the U.S.’ closest allies in the Middle East, and a bulwark against the expansion of the so-called Islamic State.

Newzad Brifki, Founder and Director of the Kurdish Community of America, will lead a discussion on what the future of Iraqi Kurdistan means for Kurds in the surrounding region.

Global Conversations is brought to you in partnership with the Friends of the Minneapolis Central Library.
