As president and CEO of CARE USA, Michelle heads up the global poverty-fighting organization that works in 95 countries and directly reaches 80 million people.

In her first year at the helm of CARE, Michelle deployed a bold strategic framework to guide and grow her hometown humanitarian organization’s impact to 200 million lives by 2020 through scale and innovation. Michelle’s travel, nearly 175,000 miles across 23 countries thus far, took her to the front lines of the world’s largest refugee crisis since WWII, seeing CARE’s work helping Syrians and later calling for greater support of refugees and diplomatic resolution to the conflict. In addition to celebrating the passage of the US Global Food Security Act after nearly a decade, Michelle saw CARE’s work to fight hunger and build food security and resilience in drought-stricken Ethiopia. She traveled to Niger to mark the 25^th anniversary of CARE’s pioneering Village Savings & Loan Associations, which now have more than 10 million members worldwide. In conflict-plagued Somalia, Michelle saw CARE’s efforts to expand girls’ education.
