Learning from Germany: Countering Intolerance

How do countries create societies that promote tolerance, resist extremism and protect minority populations? Join us for an important discussion on countering hate. Our panel brings together experts from Germany to provide a vital case study on the combination of policy and community-based action to address problems of the past and stem rising intolerance in the present. What lessons or approaches can the United States and other countries take from these examples?

Hosted by the Center for Holocaust & Genocide Studies and Global Minnesota, this special program will feature the work of German experts, each with decades of study and service in confronting extremism. They will explore approaches to strengthening civil society, building resilient communities, creating alternatives for at-risk youth, countering extremist narratives, protecting minorities, and helping partners around the world build their capacity to do the same. Our presenters from across the public sector are visiting Minnesota for a professional exchange program as part of the U.S. State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program.
