From the flower boxes adorning the windows to the homestyle German memorabilia accenting the interior, Gasthof Zur Gemutlichkeit German restaurant truly lives up to its name, which translates to a “guesthouse where everyone feels welcome.” Providing a place for those of German heritage to connect with their familial roots and for those of other backgrounds to experience genial German culture, Gasthof Zur Gemutlichkeit completes the culinary experience with infectious, lively German music.

This Oktoberfest, join us at Gasthofs for a German Culture Through Cuisine as we dine on traditional platters of wienerschnitzel (breaded veal), sauerbraten (roast beef), kaseschnitzel (pork with parmesan), hünchenbrust (chicken), rouladen (beef rolled with bacon), kasseler rippchen (smoked pork), jägerschnitzel (pork with gravy), and bratwurst, served with sides of salad, spätzle, potato croquettes, red cabbage, sauerkraut, Bavarian dumplings, mashed potatoes, and a complimentary shot of German schnapps.

We’ll also hear from German Consul General Herbert Quelle, who will speak about the Minnesota-Germany connection.

About the Consul General

Since beginning his diplomatic career in the Federal Foreign Office in Bonn, Germany, Consul General Herbert Quelle has held a number of positions across the world including Deputy Chief of Mission in Havanna, Cuba; Head of Economic Affairs in Warsaw, Poland and London, England; Ambassador to Azerbaijan, and time in the German Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa. Following his time in Baku, Azerbaijan, Consul General Quelle completed a fellowship at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University.
