Global Conversations: Minnesota’s Diplomats

This event is being held in-person and is open to everyone. 

From the first woman to hold the position of U.S. ambassador through foreign service officers meeting the complex challenges of the 21st century, Minnesotans have a long and remarkable legacy of diplomatic service.

Join Global Minnesota and the Landmark Center for our next Global Conversation and discover the stories behind some of Minnesota’s most inspiring diplomats. Hear how Minnesotans have represented our country around the world, navigating pivotal moments in U.S. diplomatic history, and how that work has benefited Americans and their communities.

Tom Selinger, a retired Foreign Service Officer and current Project Manager at the Association for Diplomatic Studies and Training, will bring these stories to life, sharing accounts of Minnesotans who have served their country through diplomacy.

Jenni’s Cafe will be open for guests to purchase lunch at the Landmark Center. Bag lunches are also welcome.

Speaker: Tom Selinger

Tom Selinger served 27 years in the U.S. Foreign Service with overseas tours in Albania, Croatia, Denmark, Kyrgyzstan, and Trinidad and Tobago and portfolios ranging from security cooperation to American citizen services. In his retirement, he works for the Association for Diplomatic Studies and Training, a nonprofit where he directs outreach efforts to promote public understanding of the work of America’s diplomats. Prior to joining the Foreign Service, he served as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Army, including combat service with the 101st Airborne Division during Operation Desert Storm, and worked as a locally-employed political specialist for the Canadian government at their Consulate in his hometown of Minneapolis.
