Summit: Peacebuilding Approaches to Countering Extremism
August 18, 2016 @ 7:30 am CDT
Event Navigation
As societies around the world face the growing challenge of extremism, Minnesota has found itself at the center of this critical issue. What lessons can be drawn from our community’s struggles to preserve both public safety and civil rights, address root causes of extremism without stigmatizing entire communities, and propose positive, community-based alternatives to the extremist message? And how can these lessons be applied to the global community? Join us as we answer these questions and more, and examine the roles education, communication, and action play in battling extremism.
In partnership with the U.S. Department of State and Global Ties U.S., this summit seeks to validate and encourage community partnerships, energize efforts to effectively and positively engage young people, and help educate the broader community and dispel common fears and misconceptions. And drawing on global case studies, we’ll look at different approaches to challenging this borderless issue.
