Global Minnesota’s annual Academic WorldQuest competition delivered another high-energy afternoon of fun, facts, and friendly competition earlier this week. Nearly 30 teams from Grand Rapids to Rochester gathered at the Mall of America for a fast-paced tournament testing high school students’ knowledge of world affairs. Students raced to answer challenging questions on topics from nuclear policy and migration to current events, soft power, and even the FIFA World Cup.

When the final scores were tallied, Mounds View High School Team A emerged as the champion, repeating their 2024 victory and earning a spot representing Minnesota at the national championship in Washington, D.C. this April. The national event is hosted by the World Affairs Councils of America, with Global Minnesota covering hotel and travel expenses for the winning team from Minnesota.

“We’re so grateful for this opportunity. We are all seniors this year and are going to remember this forever.” — John, Mounds View Team A Captain

The energy in the room reflected a shared curiosity about the world, as teams of globally-minded students competed, cheered each other on, and celebrated their love of international affairs. Edina High School Team C and Mounds View Team B secured second and third place, while Chaska High School Team B won the Team Spirit Award for bringing contagious enthusiasm to the competition. Thank you Global Minnesota members for making this program available for Minnesota students.
