Join us at the 2018 CHINA Town Hall: Local Connections, National Reflections, organized by the National Committee on United States-China Relations and locally hosted in partnership with the University of Minnesota China Center.
This national day of programming provides Americans across the U.S. and beyond the opportunity to discuss Sino-U.S. issues in the relationship with leading experts. This year’s program will feature an interactive webcast with Condoleeza Rice, former U.S. Secretary of State and National Security Advisor, and a local presentation by Andy Rothman, Investment Strategist at Matthews International Capital Management, LLC.
The evening includes complimentary hors d’oeurves.
About Condoleeza Rice
Condoleezza Rice is currently the Denning Professor in Global Business and the Economy at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, Thomas and Barbara Stephenson Senior Fellow on Public Policy at the Hoover Institution, and professor of Political Science at Stanford University. She is also a founding partner of RiceHadleyGates, LLC. From 2005 to 2009, Secretary Rice served as U.S. Secretary of State, the second woman and first African American woman to hold the post. She also served as President George W. Bush’s Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs (National Security Advisor) and on President George H.W. Bush’s National Security Council staff and as Special Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs. Previously, Secretary Rice served as Stanford University’s Provost and has been on the Stanford faculty since 1981. She has also authored and co-authored numerous books, including two bestsellers, No Higher Honor: A Memoir of My Years in Washington and Extraordinary, Ordinary People: A Memoir of Family. Secretary Rice earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Denver; a master’s degree from the University of Notre Dame; and a Ph.D. from the Graduate School of International Studies at the University of Denver. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and has been awarded thirteen honorary doctorates.
About Andy Rothman
Andy Rothman is an Investment Strategist at Matthews International Capital Management, LLC, where he is responsible for developing research focused on China’s ongoing economic and political developments and providing in-depth analysis on Asia to the investment team. In addition, he plays a key role in communicating the firm’s perspectives and latest insights into China and the greater Asia region. Prior to joining Matthews, Andy spent 14 years as CLSA’s China macroeconomic strategist where he conducted analysis into China and delivered his insights to their clients. Previously, Andy spent 17 years in the U.S. Foreign Service, with a diplomatic career focused on China, including as head of the macroeconomics and domestic policy office of the U.S. embassy in Beijing. He has a master’s degree from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs and a bachelor’s degree from Colgate University.
