This past month, an incredible group of emerging professionals from countries all across Africa have been visiting Minnesota as part of the Mandela Washington Fellowship program. This program is part of the U.S. State Department’s Young African Leaders Initiative and over the years has brought thousands of young leaders from Sub-Saharan Africa to the United States for academic and leadership training.

On this episode, hear from two of these impressive Fellows, Marcellin Tsihoboto and Sylvia Phaphali Adzitey. Marcellin is from Madagascar and serves as the chief officer of fishery and aquaculture at the Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy. His work focuses on the coordination of fishery- and aquaculture-related activity; resolution of conflicts between organizations, updating legislation, and fishery development projects. Sylvia is visiting from Ghana and is a senior nursing officer at the Tamale Teaching Hospital. She is also the founder of The FANCoD International, which works to prevent noncommunicable diseases and support persons living with them.
